We are happy to announce that St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation (SSMRF) has joined the SSIN community!
The St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation was established in 2007 and raises funds and awareness for vital medical research at the St George and Sutherland Hospitals.
They are an independent not-for-profit organisation working closely with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and University of New South Wales (UNSW).
SSMRF is proud to have funded over 70 different research projects since 2007 across a wide variety of research areas.
What does SSMRF do?
St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation’s aim is to enrich the healthcare of the community by supporting medical research at St George and Sutherland Hospitals.
SSMRF raises funds and awareness for vital medical research at the St George and Sutherland Hospitals. Since the Foundation began in 2007 they have raised nearly $9 million to fund vital medical research and impact the healthcare of our community in a positive and dynamic way. Research has included infection, immunity and inflammation, critical care, cancer care, maternal and foetal health, geriatric health, mental health and neuroscience to name just a few disciplines.
Since 2007:
- 74 Grant Projects Funded
- $8.82m In Funding Awarded
Research Philosophy
The Foundation’s philosophy has been to prioritise promising new research or emerging researchers who are on the cusp of securing more substantive external competitive grant funding. For example, of the total of 18 grant recipients since 2008, two are “very early” (doctoral scholars), 14 are “early career” researchers and only two are considered to be “mid-career”.
